Ok, moderately funny... But they still don't get the true point in viral commercials. There's a thin line between funny to enjoy, and lame to enjoy, and they're not yet safely on the right side... :?

Really? What didn't you like about it? Didn't you rock out to YMCA when you were a kid?
Maybe it's an age thing. The song YMCA was a hit in 1978.
I thought the song parody was clever and well done.

It still rocks me actually, I can't resist

But a good viral is... different from a normal commercial. (I could say, it's less commercial - does this make sense?) Virals and normal commercials are worlds apart, so that a commercial-trying-to-be-a-viral gives a sense of... you being lured to buy like a kid being lured by a lollipop. Good virals don't need to put emphasis on the product itself. With a well-done viral, you just have fun, and you *want* to know who did it and why, to give them credit, and this second part is the huge commercial boost. Makes sense? :?

Just look at this viral:

Doesn't tell much about Adidas. Are those shoes good? Comfortable? Can you run faster, better with them? It doesn't matter in a viral - it must not matter in a good one

That was interesting- I see what you mean.
I guess for the right demographic, this would be spread around. That demographic would be..... graffiti artists?

Viral marketing needs to make people want to pass it around. With this video, I am not inclinded to send it to anyone else. It doesn't make me laugh or evoke any emotion for that matter. It was interesting but not something I would tell all my friends "you have to see this!"

I think a good viral marketing campaign needs to have both qualities. It needs to make people feel something but also be limited in the amount of product promotion.
I think this is a good example of what you are talking about:

Where the hell is Matt?

You don't know what product sponsored this until the last 2 seconds.
