how to rescue defrosted cryopreserved bacterial stocks

Postby Snoopy2 » Aug 07 2012 4:51 am

Hello,

Can anyone offer any advice as to how to treat bacterial stocks that were cryopreserved (stored at minus 80C) that have defrosted after the freezer reached room temperature over weekend after a power cut? Would it be enough to just put them back into the freezer or would they need to be 'rescued' in some way?

Any (fast!) advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

It is better to streak them out on an agar plate with the proper antibiotic. Pick a single colony and grow another stock, and then freeze. This will ensure the stock is viable when you need it next time.
