anti-hsp70 antibody

Postby Luis » Jan 29 2003 5:03 pm

Hello,

I've been trying to detect inducible hsp70 expression in an insect (blueberry maggot) following heat stress. So far, I've been only been able to detect constitutive hsp70, using SDS-PAGE and WB, and I'm pretty sure I've exposed the insects to sufficient heat stress...
I'm currently using clone BRM-22 from Sigma, and I wonder if you have any suggestion of other antibodies I might try to detect inducible hsp70. The blueberry maggot is somewhat related to drosophila, so i guess antibodies that detect inducible hsp70 expression in drosophila may work.

Thanks
Luis

I'm not sure you tried the stressgen catalog but I'm using one of tehir monoclonal Ab against Hsp70 on Rainbow trout and it definitely detects inducible hsp70 even though Rbw trout is not mentionned on their catalog, I did not come across one against drosophila Hsp 70 but you may want to contact them just in case...

Good luck
Chris

Hello,

I have the same problem detecting the protein Hsp70 in insects. I've been trying to detect Hsp70 in two insects, Drosophila and Bemisia (Hemyptera), but I have the same results in insects with and without heat shock. It seems I'm just detecting the constitutive form of the protein. For this detection I'm using antibodies from Stressgen, and want to know if there is another antibody that you can recommend to detect inducible Hsp70 in insects.

Thank you very much,

Fernando.
